In-Season Maintenance Tips to Keep Your Snowmobile Running Smoothly

In-Season Maintenance Tips to Keep Your Snowmobile Running Smoothly
It's crucial to ensure that your snowmobile is in optimal condition for the upcoming season. Regular maintenance checks can prevent unexpected breakdowns and extend the lifespan of your sled this winter.

Check Your Oil Level

Before hitting the trails, always check your oil level. Low oil can cause severe engine damage and shorten the life of your snowmobile. Make sure to use the correct type of oil recommended by the manufacturer.

Check Your Belt

The drive belt is a crucial component of your snowmobile's drivetrain, and a worn or damaged belt can cause serious problems. Check your belt for wear and tear, and replace it if necessary. It's also a good idea to carry a spare belt with you when you're out riding.

Measure your Tension

A properly tensioned and aligned track contributes to better fuel economy and less wear on drivetrain components, too tight and things will start to rub and wear prematurely. Too loose and your sled won’t hook up properly.

Align Your Skis

The skis on your snowmobile are essential for steering and stability. A snowmobile will handle most predictably and be easiest to drive when its skis and track are properly aligned. Ski alignment should be checked, and adjusted after track tension and alignment has been set.

Grease Your Suspension

Your snowmobile's suspension needs regular maintenance to keep it working smoothly. Check the hyfax, which runs along the bottom of the suspension rails, to make sure there is adequate wear material. If they look worn, the cost of replacing them is cheaper than a rail job. Grease the rear suspension regularly, paying attention to the pivot points and bearings. This will help reduce wear and tear and extend the life of your machine.
